Dimapur: Winter seeds to 170 villages of Nagaland were distributed to recover economically post-pandemic.

On Thursday, 26th August 2021, the Nagaland Horticulture Department distributed the winter seeds and were flagged off by Adviser Mhathung Yangthan at the horticulture Directorate in Kohima.

The seeds were procured under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) 2021-22 and the North Eastern Council (NEC) 2021-22 schemes.

While addressing the programme, the adviser said that pandemics have taught the nagas a lot on self-production which is enough for marketing purposes too to get their economic returns. And hence this programme was conceptualized by the Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio.

Also, Yanthan urged the farmers to do real business ventures in farming and take the advantage of air cargo facility provided in the Dimapur airport.

Under the MIDH scheme 2021-22, 1000 hectares will be covered, wherein the villages will be adopted as vegetable villages by the department and are being supported as seeds for Kharif and rabi seasons.

There are overall, 70 vegetable villages covering all the districts of the state.

And under the funds provided by NEC, the horticulture department provided quality vegetable seeds to farmers for whole year cultivation, identifying, 100 vegetable villages that are covering 11 districts and 10,000 households.
