Guwahati: As Independence Day is just round the corner, Guwahati city is adorned with tricolour reflecting patriotic fervor. But this 77th Independence Day, there has been a significant drop in the sales of national flags.
Business-Northeast speaking to a few of the flag sellers of Guwahati, sales are not good this year as compared to last year. Mostly, medium-sized flags are on sale this year. And this time the price is higher.
According to Hemkanta Medhi, Marketing I/C of Khadi Board, Assam, they have achieved the target of 8,000 national flags for this year's Independence Day. Hemkanta said that they get their stocks ready as soon as they receive the orders. It takes around 6 hours to stitch 7-8 medium-sized national flags. There are 19 vendors under us.
Ms. Nina Hazarika Assistant Postal Officer, Department of Post, Assam told Business-Northeast that, it has received around 6,500 national flags. And from Guwahati Postal Office alone, they have sold over 5,000 flags. They have ample stocks available. "We have started selling flags from August 10 this year under the "HarGharTiranga" campaign. We are selling the small-size flags at Rs. 25/pc." Nina adds.
National Flags comes in various sizes- 4*6 costs Rs. 770/pc, 3*4 costs Rs. 560/pc, 2*3 costs Rs. 300/pc 1.5*1.45 costs Rs. 220/pc, 1*1.5 costs Rs. 170/pc, 6*9 costs Rs. 3200/pc, 9*12 costs Rs. 4200/pc, Hemkanta adds.
