MD, Next Electronics

  1. Next electronics has been one of the leading businesses in the Electronic Goods Showroom. How do you brief its journey so far?

Twelve years down the timeline, we started our showroom ‘Next Electronics’. There were many challenges faced at that time due to the lack of   EMI options. Slowly and steadily, we paced our journey and were successful in putting healthy competition in the market. We started selling LED TVs - the latest and one of the rarest products in the market of that time. We were the one-stop solution for all mega brands under the same roof supplying goods at prices lower than the market. We have brought the first modern trade concept in Electronics to Guwahati. We have witnessed the entire cycle of changes from the VAT system to GST. With significant players stepping into the market and online platforms, the competition in the market has hiked up. However, we have always updated our strategies to counter them and have been forwarding our USPs ahead to increase our sales.

2. Over the course of time, how successful has been your business in holding a firm foothold in the industry?

Overall, we contribute 5% contribution to Electronics in Guwahati Market. We have been doing gradual marketing and taking care of all customer databases which sums up to 1lakh 50 thousand.

3. How much investment was done initially and what is the rate of return on investment?

Initially, the investment was around Rs25L. However, at present, the investment rate sums up to around Rs4cr. Return on investment is around 3%.

4. Electronics is one of the essential services. How would you describe consumer behavior here in the Northeast?

In the Northeast, consumers like to purchase products through only known people. People have more faith in purchasing directly from the owners than the managers. When the e-commerce platform was launched in the market, initially people shifted to online shopping but with time they found the low quality of products and poor after-sale services. Thus, the consumers have again opted for the offline market.

5. How is your business contributing to the overall economic development of the region?

We are selling the products at a lower rate than the market prices and thus the customers are getting benefitted from the same. Secondly, we are offering the latest and best products to our customers as compared to the other outlets which stock old products. We were the first to launch the modern trade concept in 2009 in Guwahati which was a booster to the electronic trade.

6. E-commerce is one of the booming platforms in the developing era and people mostly prefer shopping online. How are you keeping up with the changing era?

With the changing market scenario and for the ease of our customers, we have developed our own website and app which is as good as the other world-class brands and apps. Clients can now shop online from our website, go through all the specifications and EMI options are available as well. Our app – NEXT HUB is now available on the play, store and our consumers can visit and shop there.

7. In the near future, how do you plan to expand its line of products and services to cater larger client base?

Consumers always want products at a lower price and in the coming times, we would be offering all our customers lowest prices than the online prices and lower than any of the big giants in NE.  We aspire to stand strong with our tagline ‘Online se V Sasta’.
