NHAI projects in Assam on fast track

Guwahati: The five ongoing projects of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in Assam are on fast track, said an NHAI official.

Giving details of the progress in work, the official told Business-Northeast that the balance work of four-laning of WB Border (Srirampur) to Kochugaon section, at a cost of Rs 129.18 crore, is 81.86% complete and is likely to be over by the end of this month.

The six-laning of Guwahati Bypass and four flyovers at Boragaon, Gorchuk, Lokhra, and Basistha and 1 VUP at Beharbari will be completed within a cost of Rs 299.99 crore. The 16.450-km laning work is likely to be finished by August 31, 2024. Only 54.50% of the work has been done.

The construction of six-lane standalone flyovers at Raha, Demow, Borghat, Kathiatali junctions and ROB at Jagiroad on stretches of NH 36 and NH 37 (New NH 27) will be finished by June 5, 2024, and within a cost of Rs 175 crore. Resource mobilization for 7.24 km long flyovers is in progress now.

The construction of the six-lane standalone flyovers at Bongaigaon, Chapaguri, Pathsala, Simalguri Chowk and Baihata Bypass junctions on stretches of NH 31 and NH 31C (New NH 27) will be finished within a cost of Rs 306.94 crore till June 30, 2024. Resource mobilization for 7-km long flyovers is in progress now.

The balance work of the construction of the four-lane road (Nirmbanglo-Jatinga Junction -Harangajao) of NH-54 (New NH-27 EW) will be finished with a cost of Rs 1676.70 crore by January 15, 2026. Resource mobilization for 49.23 km long flyovers is in progress now.

Further, the official said maintenance and repairing of roads or flyover are handled by the NHAI department by engaging contractors at the project site.

In Assam, six maintenance works are ongoing. In Meghalaya, routine maintenance of the two-lane with paved shoulders configuration in the Jowai-Meghalaya/Assam Section is on.

Fundings for all the projects by NHAI are undertaken by the NHAI itself, informs the NHAI official.
