NTPC achieves 42.40 lac MT of coal production this quarter

Guwahati: NTPC Coal Mining has started the first quarter of this year's coal production on a high note. The three operational coal mines – Pakri-Barwadih (Jharkhand), Dulanga (Odisha), and Talaipalli (Chhattisgarh) – have contributed to total coal production of 42.40 Lac metric tonnes.

The first quarter coal production of 42.40 Lac MT was 61 percent higher than the production of 26.40 Lac MT in the same period last year.

Furthermore, coal production during the month of June'22 was 15.55 Lac MT. This represents a phenomenal increase of 101 percent over the 7.73 MMT of coal produced in June of this year.

In addition to this coal production, NTPC contributed to the removal of 106 Lakh cubic metres and the despatch of 41.74 Lac MT of coal to NTPC power plants in this quarter.

NTPC has begun mining operations at its Chatti-Bariatu coal mine in Jharkhand and has also touched coal on May 21, and 22. The coal from this mine will be delivered to NTPC's Barh Power Station. On June 30, 2022, NTPC was awarded the operation contract for Talaipalli (West Pit) (Chhattisgarh); mining operations in this pit will begin soon.

On June 2, 2022, NTPC's Coal Mining Division signed an MOU with MECON for consultancy and project management services for its coal mines.

As a signatory to the prestigious United Nations Global Compact's CEO Water Mandate, NTPC has commissioned the National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee to assess the potential of rainwater harvesting, design the rainwater harvesting structure in the Talaipalli township, and water positivity in the two villages surrounding the township.

In June '22, the Coal Mining Headquarters in Ranchi developed and purchased Safety Reflective Jackets with LED lights from an MSME vendor to ensure improved visibility for personnel deployed in mines and sidings at night.
