Agartala: OTPC and APDCL join hands to develop battery energy storage system in Assam

A MoU has been signed between Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Tripura Power Company Limited (OTPC) and Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) for developing a 250 MW battery energy storage system in Assam.

The project would be developed by incorporating a joint venture company. OTPC is a joint venture company of ONGC. GAIL, Government of Tripura and India infrastructure Fund II.

The Managing Director of OTPC Sanil C. Namboodiripad said that OTPC has been a reliable energy supplier for Assam since 2014.

OTPC is keen to be a partner of Assam in its transition towards decarbonised energy mix.

The energy storage project will bring in multiple avenues of employment, boost to local businesses, improved utilisation of green energy, carbon emission reduction and overall socio economic development of Assam.

He also noted that the project will help the state in improving power availability during peak load hours. This will improve integration of renewable energy grid and enhance grid reliability.

The Minister of Power, Government of Assam Nandita Gorlosa said that the development would fulfil the vision of making the state a leader in green energy transition.
