Guwahati: The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) has made significant progress in Assam. Over 18 lakh houses have been sanctioned under the PMAY-G in the state, with the construction of more than 11 lakh houses already completed, stated Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass at a press meet held on Friday.
The programme aims to provide housing for all, and Assam has been working towards achieving this objective.
Out of the sanctioned houses, 7,59,163 have been completed in the last two years, while the remaining are targeted to be finished by August 15 of this year.

The implementation of the PMAY-G in Assam has incurred an expenditure of Rs 12,504.79 crore since the fiscal year 2022-23.
In addition to constructing houses, the state government has provided land to 40,096 landless PMAY-G beneficiaries. The government has initiated the construction of cluster housing projects for the landless beneficiaries, and efforts are being made to mobilize funds from different programs and corporate social responsibility (CSR) to provide other facilities in these clusters.
So far, seven clusters have been completed, covering 99 beneficiaries, and work is ongoing in 19 clusters, covering 838 beneficiaries, across 10 districts.
The state has also developed a standard operating procedure for PMAY-G housing in tea garden areas, benefiting 81,638 beneficiaries. The government is planning a mass 'griha pravesh' ceremony for over 2.5 lakh completed houses. Furthermore, to meet the local demand for skilled manpower in constructing PMAY-G houses, over 3,400 masons have been trained in the state.
To monitor the implementation of the scheme and share best practices, a regional conference of nine eastern region states will be held in Assam on June 2-3. This conference aims to assess the progress of the PMAY-G and facilitate knowledge sharing among the participating states.
