Piyush Goyal Discusses PLI Scheme on White Goods

New Delhi: An interactive meeting on 14th June was arranged by the Union Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal with the Industry on Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for White Goods (ACs and LED) to take feedbacks. The application window starts working from today.

An expenditure of  Rs. 1.97 Lakh Crore recorded from the PLI Schemes for 13 key sectors were announced during the budget session 2021-22. Around $500 Bn minimum production and 1 crore of total employment expected through PLI scheme over 5 years.

Guidelines for PLI Scheme were issued on the 4th of June, 2021 for the Production Linked Incentive Scheme of White Goods manufacturers in India and this scheme notification came on 16th April 2021. Scheme overall expense is Rs 6,238 Cr for 2021-22 to 2028-29. The incentive for sales over 5 years increases to 6% from 4%. The selection of companies under the PLI scheme will be fair and transparent within a timeframe.

Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Commerce and Industry Minister while addressing the meet with Industry Captain, stated that the scheme has been introduced to produce national manufacturing champions which will eventually lead to the growth of the flagship PLI Scheme. India will have leverage through the scheme on its Competitive & Comparative advantage to stake its claim in Global Supply Chains leading to an overall new start in manufacturing for better quality and capacity for competitiveness.
