PMBI surpasses the 100 cr mark for the 1st time

Guwahati: The Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), the implementing agency of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), has exceeded the Rs. 100 crore sales mark for the first time in May 2022.

In the previous eight years, starting with an annual turnover of Rs. 8 crore in 2014-15, PMBI has registered its highest monthly sales turnover of Rs. 100 crore in May 2022, saving the country around Rs. 600 crore.

COVID-19 second wave period total sales were Rs. 83.77 crore in May 2021. With the government's engagement in this great initiative, people have been able to minimise their out-of-pocket cost of drugs.

At the moment, these Kendras provide over 1600 drugs and 250 surgical equipment, as well as nutraceuticals, Ayush products, and Suvidha Sanitary pads for Rs. 1/- each pad.

New applications have also been requested under PMBJP to cover 3579 blocks of 406 districts in order to deliver quality generic medications to every resident of the nation through Jan Aushadhi Kendras. Residents of small towns and block headquarters can now start Jan Aushadhi Kendras. The plan gives an Rs. 5 lakh incentive and extra incentives of up to Rs. 2.00 lakh for various groups like as women, SC/ST, Hill districts, Island districts, and the North-Eastern States. This will ensure that individuals in every area of the country have easy access to inexpensive drugs.

As a result, PMBI has enhanced its supply chain infrastructure by establishing four warehouses in Gurugram, Chennai, Guwahati, and Surat.
