Power transmission & Distribution project of Power Grid to strengthen its hold over Arunachal & Sikkim

New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the comprehensive scheme for strengthening of transmission and distribution system in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.  

Recently, PM Narendra Modi reviewed the Rs 9,000 crore project of Power Grid and ordered to strengthen power transmission in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. To expertise this, PM Modi has personally intervened on this project.  

The State Government of Arunachal Pradesh, the State Government of Sikkim, and the Ministry of Power have also discussed this. To strengthen power transmission in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, the government has given orders to start the work from September 2021, after all, requirements and clearances. These decisions were taken in the meeting.

The deadline for this project is March 2022 in Sikkim, and March 2024 is the deadline for the completion of this project in Arunachal Pradesh.   Over 146 small such projects are pending in Arunachal Pradesh. And some 19-24 similar such projects are pending in Sikkim, he added. 

Prime Minister has evaluated these pending projects and ordered to complete these projects as soon as possible. Arunachal Pradesh is also expected to give all the clearances of these projects by September 2021 and the compensation assessment to acquire the land will be handed over to PowerGrid.

And in the coming years, more money will be reflected in the PowerGrid cash book. In the coming months, the initiative to strengthen the power transmission of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh will grow further.
