Guwahati: A move which will benefit dairy farmers of the state, West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Limited (WAMUL), popularly known as Purabi Dairy, has increased milk procurement rate by Rs. 2 per kg with the immediate effect.

The increase in milk procurement price, effective from December 11, will directly benefit the dairy farmers in the state who will now get Rs. 39 per kg milk having 4% fat and 8.5% SNF.

“Purabi Dairy has increased the milk procurement price paid to its producer members. With effect from December 11, all pourers shall get a basic price of Rs 39 per kg milk for milk having 4.0% fat and 8.5% SNF,” said a statement from WAMUL.
The milk cooperative has also announced an incentive for the period December 11 to January 20 which will further add value for the milk producers. During this period, the base rate will be Rs 40 per kg giving a major income incentive to the dairy farmers during the Magh Bihu season.

Further, WAMUL informed that the final procurement price will be directly dependent on the quality of milk and if a farmer is able to provide higher quality of milk, the procurement price could go even beyond Rs. 45 per kg.
“We are happy to provide added benefits to our pourers who will now get Rs. 2 per kg guaranteed hike in milk rates for 4% fat and 8.5% SNF milk. Further incentivising those who could produce better quality milk, the procurement price could go up to Rs 45 per kg of milk,” said group head P&I, WAMUL.

The official added that the increased rate will offset the rising input costs and general inflation.

The price revision of milk procurement price will be uniform across all operational areas of WAMUL.

Purabi Dairy has been enabling farmers in the state to be ‘Aatmanirbhar’ through dairying as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The milk cooperative has continued to support its 25,000-strong network of dairy farmers from Assam through various initiatives.
