Guwahati: At least one flight, Alliance Air flight I-756 from Aizawl to Guwahati, was cancelled this afternoon following a plane mishap at the Aizawl airport on Tuesday morning.

The flight that was to reach Aizawl around 1 p.m. returned and landed in Guwahati, say our sources. The crashed flight reportedly belonged to the Myanmar army and not any Indian passenger aircraft.

“The Alliance Air flight has been cancelled, and all passengers will be refunded the full fare. There is no room on other Alliance Air flights from Aizawl to Guwahati, so the money will be refunded,” said an Alliance Air customer care executive.

The Indigo customer care section refused to share details about the status of the flight from Aizawl.

Hundreds of passengers at the Lengpui airport were stranded far from the city and their distant hometowns in Mizoram and Manipur. Distances are long and roads are in poor condition in Mizoram.

There was also an Indigo flight to Guwahati an hour later. The flight status of the Indigo flight is not known, but bookings were not possible from flight booking websites.

“Probably all flights are cancelled for the day,” says a local source. Aizawl has a short flying window as the airport is in the hills. However, there are direct flights from Kolkata, Guwahati, and Imphal to and from Aizawl, all of which are likely to be affected at least for the day, say sources.
