RFRI Jorhat inks pact with Pvt firm to sell 'Janti Banh'

Jorhat: The Rain Forest Research Institute at Sotai recently entered into a license agreement with Dibrugarh-based Chroma Biotech LLP to grant a non-exclusive license to use any intellectual property right for commercial propagation and supply/sale of selected promised clumps of Bambusa Tulda (jati banh) for a period of five years.

The agreement was signed by Dr. RSC Jayaraj, Director of the Jorhat-based RFRI, and Dr. Amrita Kashyap Chaliha, Partner, Chroma Biotech LLP in the presence of RK Kalita, Dr. Bharoti Sarmah Puzari, Satyam Bordoloi, and other officials of RFRI, Jorhat.

The Chroma Biotech of Dibrugarh is a biotech start-up that has received a financial grant from Assam BioRefinery Pvt Limited (ABRPL), Numaligarh, Golaghat in 2020 towards micro-propagation of bamboo for the bio-refinery which produces ethanol from bamboo and also other commercially important plants of north-eastern India.
