Several key decisions taken in Assam cabinet meeting held in Silchar

Guwahati: Assam's Barak Valley hosted the state cabinet meeting for the first time in the history of India. The cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma took place in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar on Tuesday afternoon.

Following the cabinet meeting, the chief minister gave a press briefing on the decisions made:

  1. Rs. 59 crores sanctioned for renewed construction of embankment at Bethukandi, Silchar
  2. Mohisha Beel will soon be declared as a protected area.
  3. An elevated flyover will be constructed at Ramnagar, Silchar with an overall length of 10 km. However, India Club needs to be demolished for that construction. The CM left this to the will of the people of Silchar. If people opposes the demolition of India Club then the flyover will not be built.
  4. Another flyover was approved at the sinking place at Silchar- Kalain Road.
  5. Proposal for a flyover from Capital Point to Rangirkhari are on discussions, said Chief Minister. It will be announced later if everything is favourable. Assam govt is considering to built a 2-storied flyover if sufficient place for 4-lane flyover is available.
  6. Rs.135 cr was sanctioned for Mini Secretariat.
  7. Two new degree model colleges will be constructed at Dholai and Lakhipur (Binnakandi) 20. A milk processing unit with Rs.81 cr to be set up at Silchar which will produce 1.5 lakh litre milk everyday.
  8. Rs. 10 cr sanctioned as one time grant for DSA Silchar.
  9. Another super specialty 200-bed section to be set up at Silchar Medical College & Silchar 23. For setting up medical college at Karimganj, the cabinet approved Rs.650 cr.
  10. A new 300-bedded section will be built at the Silchar District Hospital at the expense of RS.146 cr
  11. Narsing HS School, DN HS School (Udharbond), Cachar High School will be given Rs.10 cr each.
  12. Silchar Central jail will be transferred to Lakhipur and the area of the present jail will be converted as a botanical garden.
  13. Airport Authority has approved the construction of Greenfield Airport at Doloo. Now the matter has gone for the approval of Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressed gratitude to the people of Barak Valley for helping the state government of Assam organise the first-ever Cabinet meeting in Silchar. He further stated that an assembly will be planned in Silchar by the Assam administration.
