Sikkim Govt reformed cash incentives for Olympic Medallists from the state; SOA extends supports

Gangtok: Monetary incentives for the medal winners from Sikkim at the Olympics have increased by the Sikkim Government up to Rs. 50 lakhs. The incentive was announced last Wednesday.

Under the revised scheme, Olympic gold medallists from Sikkim in individual events will now get Rs. 2.5 crore, those winning silver medals will receive Rs. 1.5 crore and Rs. 1 crore for bronze medallist.

Sports minister Kunga Nima Lepcha stated while addressing a press conference that Sikkim has huge potential and sports talents and to encourage the sportspersons as well as provide them financial assistance, the Government has raised the cash incentives for the meritorious sportspersons in Olympics.
Sikkim Olympic Association (SOA) has further welcomed the cash prize enhancement announced by the State government for prospective medal winners at the Olympics State.


The Sikkim and Sikkim Olympic Association (SOA) are proud of Tarundeep Rai, the lone Sikkimese participant at Tokyo Olympics, and are hopeful that Sikkim will produce many more athletes like Rai in the future for Olympics, stated the sports minister.
The minister also expressed his best wishes to the Indian contingent for the Tokyo Olympics where 120 athletes will compete in various sports disciplines.

Sikkim Olympic Association expresses gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Sports Minister and mentioned that the various interventions by the government in the field of games and sports like infrastructure development, inter-school competitions, junior Olympics, talent search programme, incentives, and development of club culture are all directed to bring Olympic movement in the State.
