Sikkim Milk Union to add new milk products to enhance production in the market

Guwahati: The Sikkim Milk Union is diversifying its milk products by adding new products to its production. 


It has recently revamped its ice cream plant and started producing 40ml ice cream sticks to capture the market of tourists and children in the state. 

It is being produced in vanilla, strawberry, and mango flavors to start with for the reintroduction of Sikkim milk ice cream into the market. 
Sikkim Chief Minister P.S. Tamang today re-launched these ice cream products into the market to enhance marketing options for milk procured by the Sikkim Milk Union.

He also inaugurated the fleet of marketing vehicles of Sikkim Milk Union and re-launched ice-cream products manufactured by  Sikkim Milk Union at Manan Kendra, today.

The program was attended by Secretary-AHVS-cum- Managing Director Dr. P. Senthil Kumar. Addl General Manager Ms. KD Barfungpa other Senior officials of the Govt of Sikkim, AHVS Dept and Sikkim Milk Union.


The introduction of the Dairy Incentive Scheme of Government Rs. 8 per liter resulted in enhanced attraction towards dairy farming among the unemployed youth and thus dairy farmers have grown significantly resulting in increased milk production in the state. 
These 4 new marketing vehicles will be deployed in Gangtok, Jorethang, and other towns to explore new marketing areas to meet the market requirement of enhanced milk production in the state.

The Managing Director, Dr. Senthil also stated that the Sikkim Milk Union has all the necessary infrastructure to support milk production in the state and thus urged the farmers to enhance their milk production as the situation is favorable for the dairy farmers in the state.
The Chief Minister appreciated the progress made by the Sikkim Milk Union and expressed satisfaction over its functioning and assured all support to  Sikkim Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd.
