Guwahati: The government will make the projected greenfield airport in Cachar district's Doloo tea plantation a reality by safeguarding tea workers' rights and interests.

This was said by Dr. Rajdeep Roy, a Member of Parliament, at a meeting recently organised by the Cachar District Administration.

The meeting was organised on the importance and necessity of a greenfield airport project.

"The government would take rigorous measures to thwart any attempt to hinder the realization of the airport project. No power would be able to prevent the idea from becoming a reality, Dr. Rajdeep Roy, a Member of Parliament, remarked. He goes on to say that the government has repeatedly promised to defend the rights and interests of tea plantation workers (once the airport is completed) and that it would do so.

"There is no reason to be concerned for the tea estate employees. After the megaproject is completed, the government will ensure that people have all they want and deserve "Dr. Roy, MP, remarked.

It should be noted that a group of Doloo tea estate employees, as well as those from Lalabagh and Moynargarh, have objected to the construction of the greenfield airport, ostensibly out of fear of losing their employment and housing if the project goes through. The workers believe that destroying a large number of tea bushes for the construction of the airport would result in them losing their employment when the airport is completed. The state administration, on the other hand, has repeatedly said that it will ensure that tea workers' rights and interests are respected when the megaproject is completed.

Kumar Gourav Das, co (Sadar) of the district administration, Pankaj Kumar Deka, additional deputy commissioner in charge of the land acquisition branch, and Kimneinin Changsen, assistant commissioner, were also present.

This is mentioned in a press release released by the Regional Office of Public Relations Barak Valley Zone Assam.
