Temi tea products need to be globalised: Golay

Gangtok: Chief Minister P.S. Golay attended the concluding day of Temi Tea Autumn Festival 2021 themed 'Vocal for Locals' at Temi Tea Garden on Sunday.

Speaker L.B. Das, area MLA-cum-Tourism minister B.S. Panth, MLAs, advisors, chairpersons, Temi Tea Estate managing director M. Ravi Kumar, dignitaries, and the public were also present.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister extended his warm wishes on Temi Tea Autumn Festival and added that this festival needs to be made popular and renowned domestically as well as internationally as it is being organized at Temi, which is one of the most picturesque places in Sikkim and is capable of producing organic tea leaves.

He added that this type of festival will give impetus in engaging local businesses by putting up various types of tourist-attracting amenities a livelihood. Apart from Temi tea, this place also boasts of lush Cherry trees, which gives a stunning visual delight especially for locals as well as tourists, he said. He mentioned that the visual appeal of these trees should be utilised by the festival organizers in attracting more tourists and also making this Temi Tea Festival one of the sought after festivals in the country.

In his address, the Chief Minister informed that the State government has sanctioned Rs. 600 crores for road construction projects in all four districts of the State. Works will start soon after tender, he added. He informed that the State government has sanctioned funds for 11 roads in Temi-Namphing constituency.

Area MLA-cum-minister B.S. Panth, in his address, spoke about the importance of the festival and its theme, which was focused primarily on the locals of the area and their business ventures to uplift their enterprise. He also listed down various developmental works that the State government has done in the area which are soon to be constructed Khangchendzonga State University at Temi, road upgradation, construction of SGAY houses and many other projects, which has been framed for the advantage of the area and its locals.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister launched various products from Temi Tea Garden, namely, Silver Tea, Black and Green dip bag tea. Besides the tea products, he also introduced Tapioca Chips, which has been developed by a local Self-Help Group and is being marketed by Temi Tea.
