Tripura has emerged as the one of the best performing states in use of renewable sources of energy solar power.

The Association of Renewable Energy Agencies of the States has recognized Tripura for installing highest number of solar irrigation pumps in the north eastern states and achieving second solar powered installed capacity. The association will award the state on August 27 in Cochin on the occasion of its 8th foundation day.

Meanwhile, Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) has been selected as the best performing state nodal agency in the north eastern states. TREDA has already installed a 2KW microgird power plant in 12 remote areas of Tripura which lit up the villages and another 68 villages would be soon electrified through solar power.

Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma said his government is committed in reducing dependence on the conventional sources of energy and increase use of solar power in rural areas to lit up villages.

Detailing about plans in renewable energy sector, he said in another 500 remote locations solar microgrids will be set up to serve people who are still staying without electricity.

Meanwhile, recently NLCIL had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with APDCL to form a joint venture company with 51% equity participation by NLCIL and 49% equity participation by APDCL.

The JV aims to develop a 1000 MW of Solar Power Project in the State of Assam to equip citizens with the required energy while maintaining ecology with green energy sources.

NLCIL has a pan-India presence, with Assam in the North East region being the sixth state of its operations.

State-wide analysis recently revealed that renewable energy accounts for a much higher percentage of overall state installed capacity in India’s Northeastern states with Nagaland (65%), Sikkim (64%) and Arunachal Pradesh (62%) leading the pack.
