Under PMGKAY, Govt. of India extends allotment of 198.78 LMT food till November 2021

New Delhi: The Government has extended the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) for another five months, till November 2021.

The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) has been announced by the Government of India to ameliorate the hardship faced by the poor due to economic disruption caused by the Coronavirus. For a period of two months from May- June 2021, free food grains will be distributed as 5 kg per person per month to the beneficiaries covered under NFSA.

198.78 LMT food under PMGKAY-IV (July-November 2021) will be allocated during this extended period of July -November 2021. Eight of the states like Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha, Telangana, and Tripura have already started the lifting process under PMGKAY-IV

Previously, 1.06 LMT food grains have been lifted by 28th June 2021.

Under PMGKAY-III (May-June 2021) till 28th June 2021, the Food Corporation of India has supplied 77.42 LMT free food grains to all 36 States/ UTs and the deadline for the lifting process ends by today, 30th June 2021.

For the supply feasibility to all the States/UTs of India, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has been transporting the food grains ensuring the smooth transportation.

Since 1st May 2021, a total of 2608 food grain rakes have been loaded by FCI i.e. average of 45 rakes on daily basis.

Stocks have been adequately positioned by FCI in all States/ UTs for successful implementation of PMGKAY. At present, 591 LMT wheat and 295 LMT rice (Total 886 LMT food grains) are available under Central Pool.
