Guwahati: The Northeast International Fashion Week 2024, heavily billed as the region's most highly-anticipated fashion show, will roll out the red carpets at Guwahati's South Point School on January 27 and 28. Aspiring as well as established fashion designers from India and its neighbouring countries, such as Bhutan and Nepal, are expected to participate in this event to showcase their exclusive designs for a noble cause.

With a theme of 'fashion for all', it will attempt to cater to kids, teens, and women who are interested in fashion alike. Notably, this fashion week is always held to support a social cause. In previous years, the organizers brought attention to old-age homes, organ donations, tree plantations, and caring for animals. In its 8th edition, the event will seek to create awareness about animal shelters and the plight of older animals and underline the need for more adoptions.

"The objective of the event is to create brand awareness among the public and media associated with the fashion industry of the North East," the organizers conveyed via a release. "There are also fashion accessory stalls from budding and established entrepreneurs in this event."

Prasantt Ghosh, a local designer who is credited with popularizing Northeast Indian handloom in a global arena, is the man behind this annual gala event. Ghosh, who is the recipient of several awards, has worked in shows all over India and countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Nepal as well. Since 2015, Ghosh and his team have been working rigorously on creating the biggest platform "for the future of fashion and integrating the Northeast’s rich handloom crafts internationally," said the release.

"I firmly believe that Indian threads and artisans can create unmatched magic in the world of fashion," Ghosh said in the lead-up to the event. "[This event] is a landmark event in the sense that the Northeast is now going to be the latest fashion destination for all designers of the neighbouring regions."
