Vehicle sales surge in Assam; more sales expected ahead of ‘Dhanteras'

Guwahati: Automobile sales have surged in Assam in the lead up to Diwali, the festival of lights, the Federation of Automobile Dealers' Association (FADA) said on Monday.

As per FADA data, 70,907 vehicles were sold across Assam in the month of October, in contrast to 51,833 vehicles sold last year during the same month, a significant increase of 36.8 percent. Notably, sales of all categories of vehicles, including two-wheelers (2W), three-wheelers (3W), commercial vehicles (CV), private vehicles (PV) and tractors (TRAC) all witnessed a rise.

Notably, the sale of 3W vehicles rose 91.21percent in comparison to October, 2022. This was followed by TRAC (76.95percent), 2W (35.08 percent), PV (27.10 percent) and TRAC (3.11 percent).

Business Northeast reached out to a few vehicle showrooms in Guwahati for more insight into the sales trends.

Dhiraj Jain, the manager of TVS Savera Showroom said they are "very positive" about the prospect of moving a large number of two-wheelers Dhanteras. "We have observed 50 to 100 percent growth in sales in comparison to last year. We have already confirmed many bookings and also expect more business from walk-in customers. We have also introduced a scratch and win offer for dhanteras, offering gifts like tv sets, fridges etc."

Subhas Saikia, sales manager of  Kamakhya Tata Motors said they sold 15 vehicles from their Zoo Road showroom and 20-25 vehicles from their Maligaon showroom.

'Nexa' showroom Pallavi Motors Private Limited said the introduction of new models like Maruti Suzuki Jimny, Maruti Fronx, and Maruti Invicto have boosted their sales. "These cars being priced above Rs 10 lakh are being mostly bought by salaried customers. Around 7-8 customers have registered their vehicles which they will take home on Dhanteras. We are expecting around 20-25 deliveries tomorrow alone", a spokesperson informed Business Northeast.

Mahindras showrooms have also seen a spike in sales during the festive season and are expecting more on Dhanteras BNE has learnt. Overall, vehicle sales have declined 7.73 percent in comparison to the corresponding month last year.

Indians mark the occasion of Dhanteras, the first day of Diwali, by buying metal items like gold, silver, brass, copper and so on.
