Women empowerment seminar held at Tezpur University

Guwahati: A seminar on women empowerment was organised recently by the Chandraprabha Saikiani Centre for Women’s Studies at Tezpur University, in collaboration with Internal Quality Assessment Cell, Guwahati-based Janitri, and local organisations Aparajita and Chitralekha.


Dr. Rumi Borah of Janitri said her organisation will “happily work with Tezpur University” to develop the locality by ensuring the economic empowerment of women.

Dr. Madhurima Goswami, Head of CSCWS, expressed her satisfaction to organise such an event to uplift the women from the region.


Talking to Business Northeast, Borah said Janitri has been working with Tezpur University for a long time and has got the opportunity to meet many people who are genuinely working for the development of Assam in their own capacities.
“So, we decided to start the initiative of Janitri from this place so that we all can grow and develop the area through women's economic empowerment,” she said.

Moreover, Tezpur has an enormous opportunity to start and grow various ventures such as tea, music, entertainment, tourism and it can be an industrial hub for cultural uplift.

The Tezpur University campus is well designed to work in innovation and if the young minds of the University able to utilise it in the right direction, they can change the scenario of Assam.

“The local women entrepreneurs are already doing well and we are hopeful for more success stories and contribution to the GDP growth of Assam,” said Borah.

Janitri is a socio-cultural non-profit organization whose mission is to give a forum for all mothers with a focus on education, healthcare, and women's empowerment.

Borah said that Women are part of nature and have an infinite energy source from within and are capable of doing anything they want, just they have to accept themselves first for who they want to become.
