Work on War Footing to implement Jal Jeevan Mission; quality of work will be checked in 3-phases

Assam Government has directed officials to work on war-footing for the unhindered implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), the ambitious project of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide clear and clean tap water to every home.
In this connection, Assam Tourism and PHED minister Jayanta Malla Baruah held a review meeting of the status of Jal Jeevan Mission schemes with PHED officials of the district at Deputy Commisioners office.
He assesed the status of water supply schemes in the district.
Cautioning officials about lackadaisical attitude, he said that quality of works will be checked in three phases which will start from September 1.
"The quality of pipes should also be tested randomly so that no substandard quality pipes find space in the FHTCs and pipe quality will be tested at IIT Guwahati" he asserted.
He directed departmental engineers to speed up the process of completion of the already allotted works.

The Minister also took note of the status of DPRs, Administrative Approvals , Technical Sanctions and land finalization for the new schemes.
The quality of work will be checked in three phases which will start from September 1.
In the first phase Self Help Groups will check the proper functionality of FHTCs and geo tag the connections along with filling up questionnaires to upload in data base.
In the second phase, schools students from class 9 to 12 will randomly collect water from FHTCs and check it's quality in laboratories.
In the 3rd phase, officials of state government will inspect the schemes and household connections.
He also maintained that no schemes should carry household connections less than 250 which is a prerequisite for keeping the maintainence cost viable in the long run for the water users committee.
The Minister also informed that Jal Mitras who will take care of the schemes are currently undergoing training at different ITIs of the state and engagement letter will be provided to them after their completion of training.
Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, MLA Phanidhar Talukdar, Cauvery B. Sharma, DC Bajali and other senior officials of the department and district administration were present in the meeting.
Jal Jeevan Mission, is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.
The programme will also implement source sustainability measures as mandatory elements, such as recharge and reuse through grey water management, water conservation, rain water harvesting.
The Jal Jeevan Mission will be based on a community approach to water and will include extensive Information, Education and communication as a key component of the mission.
