APGCL to generate 60 mw solar power in Karimganj

Hailakandi: Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGCL) is planning to generate 60-megawatt solar power in Sonbeel of Karimganj district, which is said to be the second-largest wetland of Asia.

A team of APGCL comprising general manager Shahnawaz Ahmed, Director Nitya Bhusan Dey, executive officer, Chinmoy Kumar Sarma Bordoloi, Rafiul Dewan, and BJP leader Gautam Gupta visited the site at Sonbeel on Tuesday.

The team decided to establish the service station at Anandapur. The officials informed us that they will submit the detailed project report soon. They said that this solar power project is expected to generate at least 60 megawatts of power and it will be able to supply power to all three districts of Barak Valley. They said that the picture of the entire Sonbeel area will be drastically changed, once the production of power begins. The Central government has been focussing on solar power generation in order to meet the rising power demand in the country.
