Arunachal organises tourism conclave to boost state's tourism sector

Guwahati: Arunachal Tourism Department held a tourism conclave in Bomjir in the Lower Dibang Valley District with collaboration from "Arunachal Tourism Stakeholders" with the theme "Responsible Destinations and Rural Hospitality" on the occasion of the Orange Festival of adventure and music.

The stakeholders meet was formally initiated by Deputy Director (HRD) of Arunachal Pradesh in the presence of 7 tourism experts and resource persons.

Tourism department's deputy director, Bengia Manna Sonam, spoke at the conclave about the history of the division and the significance of the HRD division, particularly for the state's rural populations.

John Panye, president of Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operators' Association (APTOA), introduced on the historical background of tourism and its current position in the region.
Followed by Sunil Chauhan and Pemba Tshering, two resource people, spoke with participants on developing places that promote responsible tourism.

Soumitra Kar and Narbu Lama, two more resources, discussed rural hospitality, followed by Merwin Coutinho, who held a discussion trash management during the 3rd session.

Director of Arunachal Pradesh Tourism, Tourism Abu Tayeng underlined the importance of trainings that would take into account the new policy narrative, which places sustainability at the centre. He also highlighted the high-end tourism that outside investors are bringing to rural areas.

Chief Guest Laisam Simai, a member of the legislative assembly claimed that such conclaves would enable the local communities to rejoice and find their livelihood using local expertise based on local wisdom. He said that he would be happy to take the inputs for the India G-10 initiative as the Arunachalee Model of Responsible Tourism.

In Kapang village in Dambuk, the trekkers were also given a tour of the Himalayan orange tourism trail.

Stakeholders representing 14 districts of eastern Arunachal attended the conclave by as many as 71 participants amongst transport operators, adventure tourism operators, tour operators, homestay and hospitality infrastructure owners, food providers, elected members & departmental officials attended the conclave, followed by the departmental representatives.
