Sivasagar: The ONGC Purbanchal Employees Association (ONGCPEA) has raised concern over the Assam CM, Himanta Biswa Sarma's request to the PM of India, Narendra Modi for the transfer of all the assets of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in the Northeast to the Oil India Limited (OIL).

On 12 July, ONGCPEA sent a letter to the Chief Managing Director of the ONGC stating that the implementation of the assets transferring would degrade the progress of the oil industry in Assam and they have hence sought to refute Assam CM's claim that ONGC operations are limited here.

However, ONGC has been involved in the massive exploration and production in the region in 8 oil fields with over 700 wells, 43 productions for installations, 16 drilling rigs, 15 work-over rigs, and one testing rig.
Also, the ONGC has developed a strong connection with the Northeast people and has undertaken several flagship programmes.
