Guwahati: Assam government will award contracts worth more than Rs 1,000 core in next fortnight to strengthen the embankments and take up the anti-erosion works as part of the comprehensive flood management strategy.
Piyush Hazarika, Minister In charge of Water Resources also said that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is also likely to provide a financial assistance of Rs 3,400 crore to Assam to take up anti-erosion measures.
Hazarika told that contracts worth Rs 500 crore would be awarded within the next couple of days and another amount of Rs 550 crore would be awarded by January.
He added that earlier the contracts were March leaving very little time to complete the work before the monsoon season.
While awarding new contracts, emphasis will be given on the areas that suffered most last year, which include the cachar districts, Morigaaon, Nagaon, Hojai, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Barpeta etc, a report said.
