Guwahati: In a potential boost to Assam's industrialization and employment opportunities, plans are reportedly underway to bring Apple's mobile manufacturing facility to the state.
According to sources, an Indian industrial house that has recently entered the fray of making Apple iPhones is in advanced talks with the Assam government to set up the facility.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has recently expressed his desire to bring Apple Mobile factory in Guwahati. He said this during a recent event in Bengaluru, expressing his desire to create massive job opportunities in the state to entice those who have migrated for work.
While Apple's partner Foxconn Technology Group has already invested $700 million in a Karnataka site to ramp up local production recently, sources suggest that a potential move to Assam could further boost Apple's production capabilities in India.
In recent years, Apple iPhone production in India has already reached new heights, with models such as the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 being 'made in India'.
Key companies such as Foxconn and Wistron are responsible for producing iPhones in India, but reportedly Tata Electronics is set to join the fray soon, with plans to acquire Wistron's operations in the country.
If the plans to bring Apple's mobile factory to Assam materialize, it could signify a major economic boost to the state, creating thousands of jobs and further boosting India's position as a leading producer of Apple iPhones.
However, it is important to note that these plans are still in the preliminary stages and no official confirmation or announcement has been made by Apple or the Assam government.
