Guwahati: Assam is getting a Center of Hospitality Skill Development Excellence at Tetelia in Sonapur, some 30km from the state capital Guwahati. This skill centre is a joint initiative of the Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry of the Indian government and the Tourism Development Corporation of Assam, the Indian Hotels Company Limited, and Tata Strive.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the facility on Saturday and asserted that the launch of several courses at the institute has led to employment opportunities in various hotel industries in India.

"150 out of 190 students have already secured employment opportunities", Biswa Sarma said, commending the stakeholders involved for their dedication. At the event, Biswa Sarma also stressed the significance of "soft skills" in today's job market.

"Quality human resources can be exported from Assam to different parts of the world", said the Chief Minister. He also stressed mastering English as well as foreign languages.

"The state government is working in collaboration with Singapore to impart soft skills such as English speaking skills and computer knowledge in nursing schools in Assam", he said. "Therefore, this center should provide education for employment in the hotel industry as well as take steps to acquire the English language."

Biswa Sarma further stressed that the student community would benefit greatly from the Japanese language acquisition initiative.

Looking forward, Sarma outlined an approach for the next decade aiming to increase student enrollment and elevate the standard of education. He noted the recent surge in MoUs signed for the establishment of new hotels, projecting a promising future for the hospitality industry in Assam. "We have to ensure that the younger generation finds ample opportunities in the burgeoning hospitality sector, not only within the state but throughout the country", he said.
