New Delhi: The state of Haryana has recently unveiled excise policy that promises to allow the drinking culture in corporate offices.

The policy, endorsed by the council of ministers on May 9th, is set to be implemented on June 12th and enshrines the right of employees to indulge in low-content alcohol beverages such as beer and wine whilst at their place of work.

The policy will be applicable to corporate offices that boast at least 5,000 diligent and dedicated employees and a minimum covered area of one lakh square foot in a single premises, either self-owned or leased.

In addition to this unprecedented allowance, the policy has also significantly reduced the excise duty on mild beer, wine, and draught beer. Moreover, the annual fee for bar licenses for restaurants, pubs, and cafes has also been adjusted to a lower figure.

The policy has further raised the quotas for Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), imported foreign liquor, and country liquor. Though there has been a slight increase in the rates of excise duty on country liquor and IMFL, the overall goal of the policy is to generate more revenue for the state's exchequer.
