ICC to work with Assam Govt. for inclusive growth of the state

Guwahati: The Indian Chamber of Commerce is all set to organise and lead Assam's contact with Bangladesh and other ASEAN region countries, as well as plan and carry out year-long activities.

On Sunday, a team from the Indian Chamber of Commerce - The North-East Initiative (ICC-NE) led by Mr. Sarat Kr Jain, Chairman, ICC Assam State Council, and Group CMD, SM Group, met with Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The delegation informed the Assam Chief Minister that, with Assam's current pragmatic and progressive government in place, ICC is happy to collaborate with the Assam government to promote economic and inclusive growth in the state.

According to the delegation, the activities would focus on technology transfer, commerce, and investment.

The delegation also included Mr. Ishantor Sobhapandit, Regional Director, ICC-NE, and Mr. Pranom Datta Mazumdar, Deputy Director, ICC-NE.

Mr. Sarat Kr Jain, Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Commerce Assam State Council, went on to say that the Indian Chamber of Commerce would want to organise the launch of the Assam State Council, where the Chamber's purpose and vision for the state's trade and commerce growth will be highlighted.
Mr. Jain further informed the Chief Minister that in July/August 2022-23, the ICC-NE would conduct the 2nd North-East Buyers Sellers Meet in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, with a focus on Thailand, Laos, Bangladesh, and Bhutan.

The platform would facilitate direct communication between customers from the targeted countries and potential sellers from Assam's diverse key sectors.

Mr. Sarat Kr Jain, Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Commerce Assam State Council, assured the Chief Minister of Assam that the Indian Chamber of Commerce would work with the state government to organise dedicated interventions to attract investors from India and abroad to invest in Assam's industry and commerce sector.
