Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has transferred a new vaccine technology to BioMed Private Limited, a manufacturing company based in New Delhi that specializes in high-quality vaccines.

The first recombinant vector vaccine for pigs uses a reverse genetic platform developed at IIT Guwahati. It is believed to be effective against wine fever, a highly contagious disease among pigs, poses a significant threat to India's pig industry, and currently lacks an available vaccine. The vaccine work began in 2018-2019 through collaborative efforts between researchers from IIT Guwahati and Assam Agricultural University.

The vaccine work was started in 2018-2019 through collaborative efforts between researchers from the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at IIT Guwahati, and Assam Agricultural University in Guwahati. Their research findings have been published in two papers, and featured in Process Biochemistry and Archives of Virology journals.

"The vaccine is under the process of filing a test and analysis license", the IIT Guwahati said in a statement. "The transfer of the vaccine technology to BioMed Private Limited. marks a remarkable achievement in the veterinary vaccine sector."
