Guwahati: India raises investment for NER's overall development

India's defence minister, Rajnath Singh claimed on Wednesday that government-accelerated development programmes in the North East have changed the "Look East policy" into the "Act East Policy, leading to all-encompassing regional cooperation." All-encompassing growth in the northeast area will allow all the states' commerce with South East Asian nations to grow.

He said that the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti Master Plan will be a force multiplier in the construction of infrastructure in the northeast. We have achieved significant progress in the area of energy, having made sure that Solar and Hydel Projects are moving forward and have delivered electricity in every nook and cranny.

He also promised to provide telecom and IT infrastructure to every nook and cranny of the northeastern states. "I have complete confidence that this will assure economic growth, good governance, and public welfare because of the North East's young people's commitment to hard work.

The government has provided infrastructure to make doing business easier, and the North East area is headed for a prosperous future, said Singh.

In order to boost the northeast's infrastructural development  and security, the Indian government has announced new sanctioned projects worth Rs 1.6 lakh crore. According to a media report, Assam received projects worth Rs 38,000 crore, Meghalaya Rs 12,500 crore, Manipur Rs 15,499 crore, Mizoram Rs 6,664 crore, Sikkim Rs 2,000 crore, Tripura Rs 12,426 crore, and Nagaland Rs 3,235 crores, while Arunachal Pradesh received the largest amount of Rs 44,000 crore among the northeastern states.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the two-laning of a 1,465-kilometre stretch on the Frontier Highway will be undertaken by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) at an estimated cost of Rs 27,349 crore.

This project will go through the Upper Kameng, East Kameng, and West Kameng districts and Upper Siang, Lohit, Anjaw, Changlang, Dibang Valley, and Subansiri.

The Frontier Highway will improve the state's tourism infrastructure while securing the Indo-China-Myanmar border and controlling migration from border regions.

In order to build highways, four-lane bypasses, and five ropeway projects, Assam received Rs 38,000 crore from the Indian government. It will include the 3,626 crore rupee ($55 km) Northern Guwahati Ring Road, which would cross the Brahmaputra through a bridge.

According to the Rs 12,500 crore Indian government sanction, various road projects would be built in Meghalaya.

Three packages totaling Rs 3,235 crore have been given to Nagaland.

With Rs 15,499, initiatives to build 655 km of roads are planned. There are 655 km of new roads planned for construction, with Manipur receiving a budget of Rs. 15,499 crore.

A grant of Rs 2,000 crore has been approved for Sikkim to build a bypass for the present sliding zone on NH 10 between Melli and Singtam.

The 28-km Zorinpui-Longmasu section of the Indo-Myanmar Border Road will be two-laned for a cost of Rs 764 crore after Mizoram received approval for Rs 6,664 crore.

With the clearance of Rs 12,426 crore, Tripura will undertake many road improvements. NH 208, a 135-km stretch of road, would be two-laned at an estimated cost of Rs 2,421 crore.

Tourism sites Tirthamukh and Unakoti will be accessible via this route. Feni Bridge would also connect Bangladesh to Kailashahar, Kamalpur, and Khowai Border checkpoints.
