Guwahati: Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs & Food and Public Distribution, Commerce & Industry, and Textiles, stated at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that India will continue to allow wheat exports to nations in dire need, are friendly and have a letter of credit.

Goyal stated that while a 7% to 8% increase in wheat yield was projected this year, strong heat waves caused early harvesting and productivity loss. "Given the circumstances, what we are generating is roughly sufficient for domestic consumption," Shri Goyal remarked.

India has never been a traditional player in the international wheat market, and wheat exports began just about two years ago.

Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs & Food and Public Distribution, Commerce & Industry, and Textiles, stated at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that 7 LMT wheat was exported last year, with the majority of it done in the last two months, when the Russia-Ukraine conflict erupted.

"Indian wheat exports account for less than 1% of global commerce, and our export regulations should have little effect on worldwide markets." "We continue to enable exports to fragile nations and neighbours," the Minister stated.
