Infosys Microsite launched, to offer 12,000 self-learning courses

Guwahati: A microsite by Infosys was launched by state Minister for Higher Education, School Education, Tribal Affairs Ranoj Pegu on Teacher’s Day at the Samagra Siksha Assam Office at Kahilipara here.

Pegu informed that the microsite will provide 12,000 courses for the students in colleges to learn free of cost. He confirmed that students will be able to utilise it for self-learning to earn extra credit for value-added and skill-enhancement courses.

Pegu thanked Infosys and the Higher Education Department for signing an MoU and launching the microsite.

These programmes aim to upskill the students for pursuing various courses in colleges and universities. However, according to Infosys, this course can be availed by learners of all age groups belonging to various fields of life.

Pegu met the college and university faculties to tell them to equip themselves with the MOOC courses and handhold the students in availing the opportunities.

He told Business Northeast that Infosys is a big company that utilised its CSR fund. Under the CSR initiative, the company has launched this Springboard. Some of the courses are paid courses while some are free courses. The free part will be given to Assam students for the time being. Later, they might sign another MoU for the paid courses if the students of the state demand it.

He further informed that the students can apply for various jobs after getting trained in these courses. He believes that the courses can be availed through a mobile phone also.

The officials of Infosys discussed the microsite virtually.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Biswaranjan Samal and Secretary Dr Narayan Konwar from the Department of Higher Education.
