Markets open in green; rupee touches new low against dollar

Guwahati: The Indian equity markets began in the green, with indexes rising by 339.81 points despite mixed global market patterns.

At 10 a.m., the BSE Sensex stood at 53,571.

96 improved by 155 points.

Share prices in Asia were mixed after China revealed that its GDP fell by 2.6 percent in the fourth quarter due to viral shutdowns that kept firms shuttered and people at home.

The Indian rupee fell further to 79.96 versus the US dollar.

Today, the US dollar was nearing 20-year highs versus a basket of foreign currencies.
