Shillong: Meghalaya's Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has initiated three projects with an aim to revamping the city's urban landscape.

Under the Shillong Smart City project, a 'Development of Parking Infrastructure' project has been initiated with a plan to create 1200 parking spaces, of which 465 are already underway, at a total investment of Rs 90 crore

Recognizing the historical and economic significance of the Lewduh Market, the Meghalaya government has earmarked Rs 15 crore for the 'Beautification of Lewduh Market' project. This initiative aims to modernize and enhance the oldest traditional market in the area, with a view to attracting more buyers and tourists.

Simultaneously, efforts are underway to transform the vicinity surrounding Ward's Lake with the 'Ward's Lake Promenade' project that will encompass 1.2km stretch opposite Ward's Lake. The project will feature plazas, shops, selling zones, parking facilities, and restaurants. Designed to enhance the tourist experience and promote local businesses, this initiative holds promise for bolstering Shillong's appeal as a vibrant destination.

These projects, collectively, underscore the government's commitment to instilling a sense of community pride and fostering sustainable economic and cultural growth. By investing in critical infrastructure and preserving the city's historical landmarks, Shillong is poised to emerge as a beacon of urban excellence and cultural preservation in the region.
