Modi to launch projects worth over Rs 8,500 cr in Assam

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate projects, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and four other hospitals, worth more than Rs 8,500 crore, during his April 14 visit, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said.

Modi will lay the foundation stone for an institute and attend the closing ceremony of the Gauhati High Court’s platinum jubilee celebrations at Sankardev Kalakshetra here.

“PM Modi will be on a daylong visit to Guwahati, where he will kick-start a range of projects through physical and virtual modes. PM Modi will inaugurate the AIIMS, Guwahati built at a cost of Rs 1,123 crore. It will have 750 beds and 100 MBBS seats,” Sarma said.

He added that Modi will lay the foundation for the multi-specialty hospital coming up on IIT-Guwahati campus with the support of the Assam government. The state government as part of a joint venture with IIT-Guwahati-Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovative Institute will make an initial expenditure of about Rs 600 crore. The JV is expected to offer engineering solutions to indigenous instruments linked to healthcare.

Modi will virtually inaugurate three new medical colleges at Nalbari (Rs 615 crore), Nagaon (Rs 560 crore) and Kokrajhar (Rs 535 crore). These hospitals will have 500 beds and 100 MBBS seats each. Thereafter, he will virtually distribute health cards to 1.1 crore people, who will get a health cover of Rs 5 lakh every year.

Modi will also be witness to Assam scripting the Guinness World Record in Bihu dance by 11,000 dancers at the Sarusajai stadium here.

“Modi will also lay the groundwork for the Rs 1,709 crore Assam Petro Chemicals Limited 500 project TPD Methanol in Namrup. He will lay the groundwork for a new bridge connecting Palasbari and Sualkuchi on the Brahmaputra River, which will cost Rs 3,197 crore,” the Assam CM said.
