Nagaland awaits Central fund for Greenfield Airport in Kohima soon

Nagaland Transport, Civil Aviation and Railways Minister, P Paiwang Konyak said that the state government has been pursuing with the central government for the construction of a Greenfield Airport for the state Capital, Kohima in accordance with the National Policy of having an airport in all the state capitals.

Paiwang informed that the work shall start after getting approval from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and subsequent sanctioning of the requisite fund for the project by the Union Cabinet.

The Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) said that the state government has already purchased a suitable land of an area of 1013. 72 acres, for the proposed airport. Nagaland Government is working in line with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) following the purchase and transfer.

The purchased land is ready to be transferred to the AAI for the construction of the proposed Greenfield Airport at Ciethu in Kohima.

Recently, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has forwarded the Detailed Project Report for Ciethu Airport with a request to the state government to initiate subsequent action based on the two options of Master plan for development of runway area and basic strip.

The minister stated that the state government has decided to opt for the second option, that is, runway length of 2750 M at 1412 AMSL with A-320 (Without any load restriction) and at the estimated cost of Rs 8870 crore.
