Guwahati: Nagaland’s Minister of Public Works Department – Roads and Bridges (PWD-R&B) G. Kaito Aye on Thursday inaugurated a crucial road in the Kiphire district that is being sanctioned by the central government.

An official stated that the inauguration of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase 1 and 2 was held at the public ground in Kiusam town some 30km east of the district headquarters. The Minister also inaugurated the Zingki Bridge which will connect villages in the Kiusam area.

"Development has reached the Kiusam area, due to the cooperation extended by the people", Kaito exclaimed at the ceremony, adding that more development will soon be ushered in. Kaito stressed that people in the Saramati belt are blessed with beautiful landscapes and high tourism prospects which have been untapped due to "bad road connectivity." Kaito also sought the people's support as the government was eager to develop the area.

Trans road construction from Thonok-Kiusam-Pungro-Meluri, another crucial road project, is being awaited for clearance, the Minister added in this speech.

Short addresses were delivered by local MLA, Benei M. Lamthiu, and several other dignitaries. Other highlights of the programme included cultural folk dances performed by Sangkumti Village and the Kiusam Town Women Union.
