New Delhi: The three-day 16th edition of Celebrating North East organised in New Delhi came to an end.

The event was put on by the non-profit North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) in collaboration with the Ministries of Tourism, Culture, Textile, and DoNER.

Besides the traditional textiles, the folk and traditional music and dance of India’s relatively less explored region are being showcased at the event. We're getting great responses and amazing enthusiasm here. Positive signals include the visitors' overwhelming enthusiasm in our cloth and designs, said NEIFT director Vikram Rai Medhi.

The region's incredible selection of sustainable fashion was the highlight of all three days.

'Celebrating North East' organiser Vikram Rai Medhi commented on ethical fashion and this year's theme, saying, "The face of NER handloom is changing quickly and the future seems extremely positive. The designers of our 16th iteration of "Celebrating North East" 2023 developed stunning ensembles showcasing the distinctive weaves and crafts of our area, with an emphasis on the sustainable materials of the North East."

The fashion sector alone is responsible for 8–10% of the world's CO2 emissions, he continued, thus the industry needs to evolve in the direction of sustainable fashion.
