Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is constructing new foot overbridges across its operational zones, officials informed, adding that the initiative under the 'Amrit Bharat Station Scheme' further underscores NFR's dedication to "improving passenger amenities."

NFR spokesperson Sabyasachi De announced plans for the construction of 56 new overbridges at selected stations within NFR, aimed at providing passengers with enhanced safety and comfort during their train journeys. According to De, the overbriges serve to bridge platform gaps, facilitating safer transitions for passengers during boarding and deboarding.

The 'Amrit Bharat Station Scheme' focuses on transforming railway stations into clean and safe environments and its main objectives are to maintain station cleanliness, enhance security, improve platforms, and develop passenger amenities. In the previous fiscal year of 2023-24, NFR added 10 new overbridges, with stations in Rangia and Katihar divisions receiving these essential structures.

In tandem with infrastructure upgrades, De said, NFR has embarked on a significant technological overhaul of its track signaling systems across divisions, including Tinsukia, Lumding, Rangiya, Alipurduar, and Katihar. The modernization efforts encompass interlockings, signals, switches, and related equipment, crucial components in ensuring the safe operation of trains.

NF Railway is continually upgrading its amenities to improve the passenger experience, including the installation of lifts, escalators, and upscale waiting lounges.
