NFR freight operation rises on better customer interface

Guwahati: In a continuous effort to improve transportation of freight traffic, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has been opening new stations for handling inward and outward goods traffic. Few more railway stations have been opened for freight traffic in December 2022 enabling easier transportation of various goods by customers. This is expected to benefit transporters in a big way.

To improve customer interface and further augment freight transportation, Jogighopa and Mendipathar station in Meghalaya under Rangiya division has been opened for handling inward coal traffic with effect from December 5, 2022, in Azara station under Rangiya division has been opened for handling roll on-roll off traffic with effect from December 6, 2022.

This new facility will help transportation of essential items to various northeastern states like Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura during monsoon season. Trucks loaded with essential items can be transported through railway rakes for unloading in various states where transportation through road becomes difficult.

Moreover, New Bongaigaon station under Rangiya division has also been opened for handling inward coal traffic from December 27, 2022.

The NFR has unloaded 1,332 freight trains in December 2022 as against 1,230 in November 2022. In addition, 10879 rakes of freight trains have been carried from April to December 2022 as against 9,941 in the corresponding period of last year showing an improvement of 9.4%.
