In a major boost to the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Northeast India, Guwahati-based startup A Plus Charge has installed public EV charging stations at key locations including Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Silchar, and Shillong airports, as well as at a high-footfall GMDA parking location in Guwahati. These recent deployments, done in partnership with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), mark a critical step in the company’s mission to create a dense and reliable EV charging network across the region.

“These locations weren’t randomly chosen. Airports are high-footfall zones serving both commercial and private EV users, while the GMDA site offers urban convenience. Our approach is data-driven we go where the demand emerges,” said Samyak Jain, founder of A Plus Charge, in an exclusive conversation with Business North East.

What makes these deployments even more dynamic is their responsiveness to real-time feedback. A Plus Charge tracks EV user patterns through the EV Owners NE WhatsApp group, where users share live charger updates and report on-ground issues. “The group has become a real-time nerve centre for EV users in the Northeast. It not only supports the community but also helps us identify service gaps and guide our next moves,” he explained.

Recognising the untapped potential of the Northeastern region in India’s EV ecosystem, Jain founded A Plus Charge to bring a robust electric vehicle infrastructure to the hills and plains of the Northeast.

“We realised that EV adoption was rising elsewhere, but the Northeast was being left out due to a lack of infrastructure. That’s when we decided to extend the EV revolution to this region,” Jain said.

What began as a dream to deliver “all things EV” including AC and DC fast charging and battery-swapping stations has now taken the shape of a company committed to making EV chargers as common as fuel stations. “Our goal is simple: wherever you go in the Northeast, you should find an EV charger just as easily as you find a fuel station,” he added.

With the demand for electric vehicles increasing and sustainability becoming a national priority, A Plus Charge has laid out a clear and phased roadmap for expansion. For 2025, the startup aims to install 100 public chargers across the Northeast and West Bengal. The long-term vision? A total of 1,000 chargers over the next decade, strategically located across highways, urban centres, and transit corridors. “We’re building this ecosystem not in isolation but through partnerships with EV manufacturers, infrastructure investors, and real estate developers. Our revenue-sharing and site-allocation models allow everyone to benefit from India’s EV boom,” Jain shared.

In addition to public infrastructure, the company is also planning a massive rollout of residential chargers. Over 30,000 home charging units are expected to be installed in housing societies and private residences. “At-home charging is a game changer. We're offering turnkey solutions for housing societies and private homes everything from installation to maintenance and even user education,” said Jain, emphasising the importance of convenience and user empowerment in EV adoption.

A Plus Charge is also fostering a collaborative environment by engaging with various stakeholders, including local authorities, OEMs, fleet operators, and property developers. “We are working with developers to integrate EV-ready infrastructure into new buildings and retrofitting old ones. We're also in talks with OEMs for branded charger deployments and co-marketing tie-ups,” Jain explained.

Public awareness remains a cornerstone of the company’s outreach efforts. Through campaigns, educational initiatives, and collaborations with municipalities, the company is trying to eliminate hesitation among potential EV users. “People need to understand that EVs are not just sustainable—they’re also convenient and cost-effective. Awareness is half the battle,” he said.

To support this aggressive expansion, Jain revealed that the company is preparing to open a new funding round in July. “We’re entering a new funding round this July. Our focus is on attracting investors who are not just looking at returns, but who genuinely believe in clean energy and sustainable mobility,” he said. The startup is offering strong unit economics, a scalable model, and a deep understanding of market needs. “We invite investors who share our long-term vision and are committed to building a cleaner, more accessible EV infrastructure for the country,” he added.

While A Plus Charge may still be in its early stages, its strategy is anything but small-scale. With a blend of data-backed decision-making, strategic partnerships, and community engagement, Samyak Jain is steering the company and the region towards a cleaner, greener future. “We may be a startup, but we’re playing a national game. The Northeast is just the beginning,” Jain concluded.

Founded by Samyak Jain, A Plus Charge is a Guwahati-based EV infrastructure startup focused on building a comprehensive and accessible charging network in Northeast India. The company offers AC charging, DC fast charging, and battery-swapping solutions for both residential and commercial users.
