Sangareddy: A massive blast at a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in Telangana's Sangareddy district claimed the lives of at least 12 workers and left over 26 others injured on Monday.
The incident happened at Sigachi Industries, triggering a huge fire followed by a building downfall.
More than 60 workers were reportedly present at the site when the blast took place. Release operations, connecting a dozen fire tenders and teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services, are ongoing.
Several workers are feared to be stuck under the debris.
State Labour and Health Ministers rushed to the site to oversee the rescue operations and assured all necessary support to the injured and their families. “The government will extend full care and assistance to those affected,” they said.
In the meantime, anxious relatives of some of the missing workers last to gather near the factory premises, awaiting news of their loved ones.
Telangana Fire Services Director Nagireddy informed the media that it is still indistinct how many workers remain stuck. The cause of the explosion is yet to be learnt.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed officials to provide the best possible medical care to the injured. Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy also guaranteed that central agencies would fully support the continuing rescue and relief efforts.
President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have spoken deep condolences to the families of the deceased.
The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the next of kin of those who died and Rs. 50,000 for those injured in the tragedy.
