Seed Bank Programme is introduced to facilitate easy access to quality fish seed for fish farmers. A seed action plan has also been prepared and submitted to the Government of India for the same.Under this scheme; government has established one brood bank unit at Bhubaneswar Kausalya Ganga.

Implementation

 The specified scheme focuses at making fish seed available in the form of fingerlings for enhancing fish production. It proposes to develop seed rearing areas on cluster basis under the ‘Fish Seed Bank Programme’, targeting individuals farmers/growers/youth interested in taking up fish seed rearing through construction of new rearing pond/tank in suitable land. Under this scheme, one brood bank would cost around Rs5cr.

Progress  

Proposals are submitted for establishment of subsidiary brood bank units under this programme. The programme will focus on quality seed production. Few districts are selected where the brood banks would be established and would cater to the needs of the seed bank. Few seed banks are exclusively taken by ‘APART’ for the improvement of fish seed quality through establishment of fish brood bank or seed bank in the state. The programme aims at socio-economic upliftment of the rural people and generating self employment opportunities for them.
