Guwahati: The first batch of newly recruited officers of the Assam Urban Administrative Service will undergo a training programme that was inaugurated on Monday by Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal at the Royal Global University in Betkuchi.

Singhal suggested working with the citizens through public partnership to solve every problem, big and small, of the people of urban areas. "50 percent of the country's citizens will become residents of urban areas", Singhal pointed out. "It is a great opportunity to work for the people of urban areas in this nectar period of the next 25 years."

“Even if we enter the coal mines, we must work without getting black spots on our bodies", he said, in an apparent warning against corruption. He urged the newly appointed officers to maintain a clean image of themselves and the government by serving the people with complete "honesty and responsibility".

The inaugural program was attended by several dignitaries.
