Tripura takes preemptive steps to tackle monsoon food price surge, holds review meeting

Agartala: A review meeting was held on April 3 at the conference hall of the Department of Food, Public Procurement, and Consumer Affairs to discuss the control of stock and prices of essential food items in the open market during the upcoming monsoon season in Tripura.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for Tripura and other Northeasterns states till 7th of April.

According to a report available with Business North East, the meeting was chaired by Director of the Department, Nirmal Adhikari, and was attended by representatives from the All Tripura Merchants Association, Tripura Wholesale Grocery Merchants Association, and various market committees of the Agartala Municipal Corporation area.

During the meeting, the director thoroughly discussed the current stock of food products in the market, wholesale/retail prices, and other relevant issues with the business representatives. He urged all concerned parties to take proactive measures to ensure an uninterrupted supply chain and to prevent any abnormal price hikes during the monsoon season.

“The business representatives reassured the attendees that current market prices are within normal ranges, considering prices outside the state. They pledged to take necessary steps to maintain stable supplies and prices of daily necessities throughout the rainy season”, the report reads.
