4 NE states among those benefited from UDAN scheme

Guwahati: Four states from the North East have benefited from the Ministry of Civil Aviation's UDAN scheme.
Altogether 73 unserved and underserved airports, including nine heliports and two water aerodromes have been operationalised since 2017 under the UDAN scheme, as per data till January 31 this year.


UDAN, which was launched on October 21, 2016, is an ongoing scheme where bidding rounds are conducted from time to time for covering more destinations and routes under the scheme.
UDAN is a self-financing scheme. A viability gap finance of around Rs 2,355 crore has been released to selected airline operators as on January 31 for the operation of UDAN flights.
The government has approved the 'Revival of unserved and under-served airports' scheme for the revival and development of 100 unserved and under-served Airports, Helipad and Water Aerodromes by 2024.
